How to Join

About Our Chorus

The South Burlington Community Chorus is an SATB chorus founded in 1973. We are supported by the South Burlington Recreation Department, which provides rehearsal space and other ongoing support.

The SBCC strives to create a community of singers who are committed to supporting one another to learn more about singing, have fun, and provide our audiences with quality performances. No auditions are required, and you do not need to be a South Burlington resident to join.

When Can I Join?

Membership is open at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester:

  • Fall semester typically begins in September.
  • Spring semester typically begins in January.
  • The chorus does not meet in summer.

Registration periods are announced on our website, through our mailing list, and in local media.

Musical Experience & Skills

  • Experience singing in an organized group (such as chorus or musical theater) is strongly recommended.
  • Ability to match pitch is required.
  • Ability to follow along with a written score is required.
  • Some familiarity with reading sheet music is recommended (though the ability to read music fluently is not required).

Attendance & Practice Expectations

Rehearsal Attendance:

  • Consistent attendance is essential – absences affect the entire group.
  • If you know you must miss three (3) or more rehearsals, please email us in advance at sbcommunitychorus@gmail.com.
  • If you miss more than three (3) rehearsals, you must consult with the Director regarding your progress.

Home Practice:

  • Review the music between rehearsals – some pieces are challenging and benefit from regular practice.
  • Rehearsal recordings are provided on our website to help you practice between sessions.

Registration Requirements

How to Register:

  • Advance registration is required – walk-ins at rehearsals are not accepted.
  • Complete the Registration Form available on our website during the registration period.
  • Submit payment of semester dues plus music cost.

Cost:

  • Semester dues: $85
  • Music cost: varies by program (typically $25 – 35)
  • Payment accepted via PayPal upon registration, or check at the first rehearsal.

Refund Policy

All semester dues and music costs must be paid upon registration.

Singers who withdraw in writing (email to sbcommunitychorus@gmail.com) within 3 calendar days after the second rehearsal will receive:

  • Full refund of semester dues (minus PayPal fees if applicable)
  • Full refund of music costs IF music is returned in like-new condition (unmarked, no tears or damage)

Music must be returned as soon as possible after withdrawal. Refund checks will be issued within 3 weeks of receiving your withdrawal email and returned music.
