Welcome Letter Fall 2016

Welcome to the South Burlington Community Chorus! Thank you for your interest in joining this group of enthusiastic music lovers. We are under the direction of Mr. Matthew LaRocca. This chorus is beginning its 43rd season and is partially funded through the City of South Burlington Recreation Department. While we do not have auditions or even require that you read music, members are expected to possess the ability to carry one’s part in the section, to attend rehearsals, and enjoy learning more about music.

Fees: $50.00 NEW & RETURNING MEMBERS plus the costs associated with all music purchased (which are yours to keep). These membership fees help cover our costs associated with funding a chorus & producing quality performances.

Rehearsals: Tuesday evenings, 7-9:15 pm in South Burlington High School on Dorset Street. Our weekly schedule generally follows the school calendar. There will be no rehearsal on a few dates due to school holidays. We will do our best to make you aware of these in a timely manner. In the event that the weather is questionable for any rehearsal or concert, please contact the South Burlington Recreation Dep’t at 846-4108 for the latest updates on cancellations. Please turn all pagers/cell phones to vibrate mode, or leave at home during rehearsals. There is no smoking or consuming of alcoholic beverages on school property. You may wish to bring water with you to our practices, as it is quite dry in the school. Please remember to carry out water bottles if you bring one.

Attendance: You are expected to be at all rehearsals (please) and on time… that means in your chair and ready to sing promptly at 7:00! The music we perform can be quite challenging and attendance is required at all rehearsals! If you will miss a rehearsal, please contact Marla Weiner, our Communications Director, and let her know by phone at 658-1099 (h) 324-5056 (c) or e-mail with “SBCC” in the subject line at fireflymarla@gmail.com. Note: If more than three rehearsals are missed, you will need to consult with the director regarding your progress with the music.

Music: You have purchased the music we will be performing this Fall at our cost. You are encouraged to write notes from our conductor on your scores, to highlight your part, and to make whatever marks will help you perform the music better. Please bring your preferred marker(s) to each rehearsal. Anyone who already has a black concert folder for their music may keep it and use it for rehearsals and performances. Anyone in need of a folder will have an opportunity to purchase one at our cost as we get closer to the Concert date.

Concert Date: Saturday, December 3rd at 7:30 p.m.

Concert Venue: McCarthy Arts Center, Saint Michael’s College, Colchester, VT

Required Concert Apparel in General: Women: Floor-length black skirts or slacks, black stockings, and dark dress shoes with black long-sleeve tops. Men: Dark suit pants, dark socks, and dark dress shoes, black button-down dress shirts with collars. The Board, along with our Director, may decide on different Concert Apparel based on a specific Concert theme. All singers will be informed of this well in advance of the Concert. (PLEASE, NO PERFUME OR COLOGNE)

SBCC Email Policy: We take your privacy very seriously and will not give, share, nor sell your email address. The Conductor, Board Members of the Chorus, and the City South Burlington of South Burlington Recreation & Parks Department are the only ones with access to your contact information. The Rec Dep’t may occasionally email regarding other recreation opportunities, but you may Opt Out of their emails at any time. We will not send out “Non-Chorus” related email. If you would like to communicate with each other, please share your contact information directly.

Social Get Together: We make every effort to have a gathering during the semester to get to know each other better.  Generally, this is a shortened rehearsal with some “fun” time to follow. (Stay tuned…)
